PM Modi Urges Economic Self-Reliance, Makes Seven Appeals Amid Global Crisis

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made seven key appeals to citizens, urging greater economic self-reliance in view of the ongoing West Asia crisis and rising global uncertainties.

Addressing a function in Hyderabad, Modi called on people to become partners in strengthening the nation and conserving resources, particularly as crude oil prices remain elevated due to tensions in West Asia and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

He urged citizens to reduce consumption of imported fuel by opting for public transport and carpooling, noting that crude oil prices have crossed 100 US dollars per barrel and recently touched a 52-week high of 126 dollars.

The Prime Minister also asked people to rethink discretionary spending, including avoiding foreign travel for a year, cutting down on destination weddings abroad and limiting excessive gold purchases.

He further called for the revival of work-from-home practices to reduce fuel consumption and ease economic pressure.

Modi appealed to citizens to reduce edible oil consumption, while urging farmers to lessen dependence on imported chemical fertilisers and adopt sustainable alternatives.

Emphasising the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, he said self-reliance and organic farming are crucial for achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047. (Agencies)
