Kulgam Hit-and-Run Case Solved; Accused Arrested in Uttar Pradesh
by Northlines · NorthlinesSrinagar, Jul 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday solved the fatal hit-and-run case involving an 11-year-old girl in Kulgam by arresting the accused from Uttar Pradesh and seizing the vehicle allegedly involved in the accident.
The accused has been identified as Arun Gupta, a resident of Behrinbagh in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh.
The incident occurred on July 10 near KP Colony in Vessu, Kulgam, when an unidentified vehicle struck the 11-year-old girl and fled the scene. The victim was rushed to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Following the incident, police registered a case at Police Station Qazigund under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to trace the accused.
During the investigation, the team analysed CCTV footage, examined evidence and developed technical leads that helped identify the accused and trace the offending Grand Vitara vehicle.
Acting on the leads, a police team travelled to Uttar Pradesh, where, with the assistance of the local police, the accused was arrested and the vehicle seized.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam said the arrest underscores that offenders cannot escape the law by crossing state boundaries and credited the breakthrough to meticulous technical investigation and coordinated efforts by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh.
