Three Held With Heroin as Police Bust Drug Supply Chain in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 6: Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers and busted a narcotics supply chain in Jammu city, recovering heroin-like substances, syringes, electronic weighing machines, cash and mobile phones, officials said on Thursday.

The arrests were made during an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking under the drug-free campaign. Police intercepted a Mahindra Thar during routine checking at a traffic naka in Channi Himmat and recovered two syringes, including one containing a suspected narcotic substance.

A search of the driver, Mohd Tabish Saleem of Mendhar in Poonch district, led to the recovery of a heroin-like substance. A similar substance was also recovered from co-passenger Mohd Irfan of Raika, Bahu Fort, officials said.

Police subsequently registered a case at Channi Himmat police station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched an investigation.

During the probe, police traced the alleged backward linkages of the network and arrested another accused, Aijaz Choudhary alias Ajju, a resident of Channi Rama, on Thursday.

A search of Choudhary led to the recovery of two electronic weighing machines, six mobile phones, Rs 28,000 in cash and a syringe, which were seized as evidence.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the narcotics network and establish its forward and backward linkages.
