Jammu, Jan 1:  Ahead of the launch of train service connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 6 will virtually inaugurate the Jammu Railway Division from New Delhi.

Official sources here said that PM Modi will virtually inaugurate the Jammu Railway Division on January 6, and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh will attend the event here.

Alongside Jammu, two other railway divisions will also be inaugurated across the country on the same day.

Jammu currently falls under the Firozpur Railway Division of Northern Railways.

The establishment of the Jammu Railway Division was a long-standing demand of local organizations in the region, and its creation is expected to benefit both passengers and railway employees, enhance connectivity, and foster economic development.

The train services at present operate between Sangaldan and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, while a trial run is also underway on the crucial 18-km Katra-Reasi section, a vital segment of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

The USBRL project aims to provide world-class rail infrastructure with advanced amenities.
