J&K: Terror Hideout Busted In Poonch

JAMMU, Aug 5: Security forces unearthed a terrorist hideout in a remote village of Poonch district on Wednesday and recovered two magazines of an AK assault rifle along with 134 rounds of ammunition, officials said.

The hideout, concealed inside a cave at Bhoriwala Dhok in Surankote tehsil, was detected during a joint search operation by the police and Rashtriya Rifles, they said.

The recovered ammunition included 117 rounds for an AK assault rifle and 17 rounds of 9-mm pistol ammunition, officials said.

The recovery came as security forces continued a massive search operation across more than a dozen forested villages in Surankote following reports of the movement of two groups of suspected terrorists in Dhara Sangla and Gujjar Naar.

Although no contact had been established with the suspected terrorists, the operation was continuing, officials said.

In separate operations, security forces searched areas in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector and Kathua’s Hiranagar sector following reports of suspicious movement.

Army and police personnel conducted a thorough search in the Sunail Panchayat area of Akhnoor after a villager reported suspicious movement. No suspicious person or material was found during the operation.

In Hiranagar, police and CRPF personnel conducted a joint search from Parshuram Temple to Jandi Nallah early Wednesday as part of area domination and heightened surveillance.

Security forces have intensified searches and area domination operations across vulnerable areas of the Jammu region following inputs regarding possible terrorist movement.
