Punjab Police Bust Two ISI-Backed Terror Modules, 9 Held

Chandigarh, Aug 4: Punjab Police have busted two ISI-backed cross-border terror modules in Amritsar and arrested nine accused, including four juveniles, recovering three illegal pistols, four petrol bottle bombs and nine live cartridges, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.

In a post on X, Yadav said the major breakthrough was achieved by Amritsar Commissionerate Police, which uncovered the modules allegedly being operated at the behest of foreign-based ISI handlers.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the handlers were attempting to recruit local youth for terror-related activities, including surveillance of security installations, procurement of illegal weapons and efforts to disturb public peace, the DGP said.

The investigation also found that surveillance cameras had been installed near railway tracks and their footage was allegedly being shared with foreign-based handlers, Yadav said.

FIRs have been registered at Mohkampura, Airport and C-Division police stations in Amritsar.

Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the alleged ISI-backed network, establish its forward and backward linkages, trace the financial trail and determine whether the accused were involved in other terror-related activities, the DGP said. (Agencies)
