Sunderbani, May 16: A family in Barnada,  Nala Panchayat has accused the revenue officials of harassment over a piece of land which they assert is their “Malkiyat” property.

Ashok Kumar and Simro Devi accused some influential persons of attempting to dislodge them and encroach upon their land with the alleged support of certain officials in the revenue department.

“The revenue department has conducted demarcation of the land nearly five times despite the property already being recorded as privately owned in official records,” claimed family, alleging that a few miscreants are pressuring officials to pave the way for construction of what they call a community hall on the site.

Simro Devi alleged that revenue officials visit the area frequently and harass the family on a regular basis. She further claimed that despite repeated demarcations confirming the land as “malkiyat,” no copy of the demarcation report has been provided to them despite asking for it.

The family questioned the need for repeated demarcations, stating that in normal circumstances people struggle to get even one demarcation conducted by the revenue officials despite submitting applications and repeated follow-ups.

“Here the department has conducted demarcation five to six times, which is beyond our understanding,” they said.

They also raised concerns over the proposed construction of the said community hall at the site, claiming the land is located beneath a hill and remains vulnerable to landslides, especially during the rainy season.

Appealing to the Lieutenant Governor for intervention, the family said they have been living in the area since before 1947 and deserve to live with dignity and security.

They warned that if justice is not delivered, they may be forced to take extreme steps, holding the concerned BDO and Tehsildar responsible for any untoward incident.
