J&K: Houses of Two LeT Terrorists Demolished in Anantnag

Srinagar, July 23: Authorities demolished the houses of two active Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Anantnag district during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, hours after a police head constable was shot dead while on Amarnath Yatra security duty, officials said.

The demolished houses belonged to Adil Thokar and Haroon Rashid Ganaie, both identified by officials as active LeT militants.

The action followed the killing of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, who was posted on Amarnath Yatra security duty and was shot dead by a lone militant at Lal Chowk in Anantnag on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said the demolition was carried out as part of ongoing anti-terror measures in the district.

Authorities have previously demolished the houses of active militants in Kashmir as part of counter-terror operations. However, such actions had remained suspended for nearly a year amid a decline in militant violence across the Valley.

Further investigation into the policeman’s killing is underway. (Agencies)
