Two Back-to-Back Earthquakes Strike Northwestern Nepal

Kathmandu, Sep 16: Two back-to-back earthquakes struck northwestern Nepal early Wednesday, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, authorities said.

According to the National Seismological Research Centre, the first tremor, measuring 4.5 magnitude, was recorded at 1:51 am local time.

A second earthquake of 4.2 magnitude struck at 4:28 am, with its epicentre also located around Kalai in Mugu district, the centre said.

The tremors were also felt in neighbouring Dolpa and Jumla districts. However, authorities said there were no immediate reports of damage caused by the earthquakes.

Nepal lies in a seismically active zone and frequently experiences earthquakes. Authorities are monitoring the affected areas for possible aftershocks and any structural damage following the two tremors. (Agencies)
