Srinagar, Dec 23: The Health and Medical Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has referred 480 posts of Medical Officers to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Services Commission (JKPSC) for direct recruitment, according to an official communication issued on Tuesday.

An official letter from the Civil Secretariat stated that the referral has been made under the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Family Welfare (Gazetted) Service Rules, notified vide SRO 325 of 2013, and the requisition form has been forwarded to JKPSC to initiate the recruitment process.

The category-wise breakup of the posts includes 192 under Open Merit, 38 Scheduled Caste, 48 each under Scheduled Tribe-I, Scheduled Tribe-II and Backward Area, 39 Other Backward Classes, 48 Economically Weaker Sections, and 19 posts under ALC/IB category.

The department has also requested JKPSC to incorporate specific conditions in the advertisement to avoid future legal complications. As per these conditions, candidates selected as Medical Officers will not be allowed to continue postgraduate courses or tenure positions such as Senior Residency, Registrarship or Demonstratorship after selection. However, candidates will be given a one-time option to either accept the Medical Officer post or continue with their existing postgraduate or tenure engagement.

The letter further states that upon appointment, selected Medical Officers will be required to serve mandatorily in peripheral and far-flung areas of the Union Territory to ensure equitable healthcare delivery.

The communication has been addressed to the Secretary, JKPSC, seeking acknowledgement and necessary action. (KNT)
