Nasha Mukt Abhiyan: Jammu Zone Police Register 962 NDPS Cases, Arrest 1,140 Accused in 100-Day Crackdown

Jammu, July 7: Jammu Zone Police have registered 962 cases, arrested 1,140 persons, and seized a large quantity of narcotics during the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, launched on April 11 to combat drug abuse and dismantle narcotics trafficking networks across the Union Territory.

Sharing the details on Monday, Bhim Sen Tuti, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, said the anti-drug campaign has witnessed an intensified crackdown against drug peddlers and smugglers across the division’s ten districts.

According to the IGP, police have seized 15 kg of heroin, 49 kg of ganja, 30 kg of poppy straw, and 6 kg of charas during the drive.

He said 30 persons have been detained under the PIT NDPS Act, while 82 properties linked to narcotics offenders have been attached. Authorities have also destroyed illicit narcotic cultivation spread over 140 kanals of land, cancelled 121 driving licences, and blacklisted 153 vehicle registration certificates (RCs) for their alleged involvement in drug-related activities.

As part of regulatory enforcement, police inspected 4,045 druggist and chemist shops across the Jammu division to check the illegal sale of controlled substances.

Highlighting the campaign’s awareness component, the IGP said police, in coordination with various stakeholders, organised 2,125 awareness programmes, reaching lakhs of people through schools, colleges, public rallies and community outreach initiatives.

Launched by Manoj Sinha on April 11 with a mega padyatra from M.A. Stadium in Jammu, the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan follows a three-pronged strategy of public awareness, rehabilitation of drug addicts and strict enforcement against narcotics networks.

Officials said the campaign has resulted in extensive action against drug traffickers through arrests, registration of FIRs, attachment of properties and sustained public participation aimed at making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free. (Agencies)
