Cop injured in accidental firing

Shopian, Mar 28: A policeman was injured after a colleague’s rifle accidentally discharged at the district police office in Shopian, officials said on Saturday.

Constable Ashiq Hussain, who was working in the canteen, sustained a bullet injury in his lower abdomen when the firearm went off inside the premises. He was immediately shifted to 92 Base Hospital for treatment.

Officials said the incident occurred due to an accidental discharge from another policeman’s weapon. Hussain is currently under medical care, and his condition is being monitored.
