J&K: Fresh Landslide Hits Ramban’s Ramsoo, Authorities Monitoring Bisleri Nala Flow

RAMBAN, Jul 31: A fresh landslide occurred in the Ramsoo area of Ramban district, partially affecting the flow of the Bisleri Nala along National Highway 44, with authorities closely monitoring the situation, officials said on Friday.

Ramsoo Sub Divisional Magistrate Muzahir Hussain Shah said the landslide occurred in the same vicinity that witnessed a major landslide last year, which had blocked the nala and prompted authorities to temporarily shift residents to a nearby government school.

“Last year, keeping that risk in mind, we shifted residents to the Government School nearby for 15-20 days, where we provided food, water and other essential arrangements,” Shah said.

He said the present blockage was not severe enough to warrant evacuation but added that the administration was maintaining a high state of vigil to prevent any mishap.

“During the monsoon, another landslide has occurred, and the nala flow has been partially affected, but the blockage is not severe enough to require evacuation. We are closely monitoring the situation,” he said.

The development comes amid extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall and flash floods across the Jammu region.

Meanwhile, authorities restored the critical 132 KV electricity grid supply to Poonch after 10 days of disruption caused by damage to power infrastructure. Two to three transmission towers between Rajouri and Thanamandi were washed away, disrupting power supply across the district.

PDD officials said the damaged towers were restored using an Emergency Restoration System, enabling Poonch to receive its full power allocation.

Heavy rainfall and a cloudburst on July 19 had also severely damaged the Thannamandi-DKG-Bufliaz Road, washing away stretches of the road, culverts and trees at several locations. (Agencies)
