Amritsar Blast Linked to Pak ISI Design Around Op Sindoor Anniversary: Punjab DGP

Chandigarh, May 6: A low-intensity blast near an army cantonment in Amritsar is suspected to be part of a design by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence to disrupt peace around the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.

The explosion occurred late Tuesday night near the Khasa cantonment area. No injuries were reported. The incident came hours after another blast outside the Border Security Force headquarters in Jalandhar, triggering a statewide alert.

Yadav said no group has claimed responsibility so far, but preliminary assessment points to a possible role of Pakistan’s ISI. “Punjab is fighting a proxy war on behalf of the nation,” he said, adding that the timing of the incident suggests an attempt to create disturbance.

An FIR has been registered, and multiple teams are probing the case using human intelligence, technical inputs and forensic analysis. The exact nature of the explosive device will be confirmed after forensic examination.

Senior police officials, along with bomb disposal squads and forensic experts from the Punjab Police and BSF, visited the site, secured the area and collected samples.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Suhail Mir Qasim said initial findings suggest an explosive object was thrown at the boundary wall, causing minor structural damage.

Police said investigations into both the Amritsar and Jalandhar blasts are ongoing, and those responsible will be brought to justice.
