Jammu Celebrates Eid With Prayers For Global Peace
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu, Mar 21: Eid al-Fitr was celebrated with religious fervour and traditional gaiety across the Jammu region, with large congregations offering prayers for global peace and an end to conflicts, particularly in West Asia, amid tight security arrangements.
Hundreds of devotees gathered at eidgahs and mosques across the region, with the main congregation held at the eidgah on Residency Road, followed by prayers at Mecca Masjid and Jamia Masjid.
Eid al-Fitr marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan, observed through fasting, prayers and charity, and signifies joy, gratitude and togetherness.
Religious scholars highlighted the importance of compassion, sacrifice and unity, while praying for peace in conflict-hit regions. Shahi Imam of Jammu, Mufti Inayatullah Qasmi, said Eid is a day of gratitude after a month of devotion. He stressed that war is not a solution and urged nations to resolve disputes through dialogue.
National Conference provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta visited the eidgah to greet people, underscoring Jammu’s tradition of communal harmony where people of all faiths celebrate festivals together.
Extending Eid greetings, Bashir Ahmad Veeri said ongoing global conflicts have caused economic hardships and rising prices, expressing hope for peace and relief for people.
Following prayers, people exchanged greetings and sweets, celebrating the festival in a spirit of unity. Eid festivities were also reported from Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur districts. (Agencies)
