SRINAGAR, Jul 29: Security forces on Wednesday busted a terrorist hideout in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a joint search operation, dealing a major blow to the terror infrastructure in the region, officials said.

The operation was carried out in the Sursunoo-Tantrypora orchard area by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the 18 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following specific intelligence inputs.

During the search, the joint team unearthed a concealed terrorist hideout and seized a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition, including AK-56 series rifles, pistols, Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGLs), grenades, magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Officials described the recovery as a major operational success that has dealt a significant blow to the terror ecosystem and is expected to thwart potential militant activities in the area.

The seized weapons and explosives have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the ownership of the hideout and the intended use of the recovered arms and ammunition.

Security agencies said the operation forms part of sustained counter-terrorism efforts aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure and preventing terror-related activities across south Kashmir. (Agencies)
