Delhi Police Seek Details of Foreign-Educated Doctors Amid Red Fort Blast Probe
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, Nov 29: Delhi Police on Saturday issued notices to private hospitals across the Capital seeking complete details of doctors who obtained medical degrees from foreign countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, the UAE and China, officials said.
According to police, hospital administrations have been asked to submit the names, qualifications and employment particulars of such doctors currently working in private medical facilities. The move forms part of an intensified crackdown on a suspected “white-collar” terror network linked to the deadly car blast near the Red Fort earlier this month.
On November 10, a Hyundai i20 driven by Dr Umar Muhammad exploded near the Lal Qila Metro Station, killing 13 people and injuring several others. Investigations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) revealed the blast was connected to an interstate terror module with links to the Jaish-e-Mohammed.
So far, seven accused have been arrested, including Dr Muzammil Shakeel (Pulwama), Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather (Anantnag), Dr Shaheen Saeed (Lucknow), and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay (Shopian). Police said they played key roles in planning and executing the attack.
Earlier arrests included Amir Rashid Ali, the registered owner of the vehicle, Jasir Bilal Wani, who provided technical assistance, and one Soyab, who allegedly sheltered Umar and offered logistical help.
The investigation is ongoing. (Agencies)
