“No Decision To Drop Urdu, Don’t Spread Lies”: CM Omar Abdullah Hits Out At PDP
by Northlines · NorthlinesSrinagar, May 1: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday dismissed claims of dropping Urdu, stating that no such decision has been taken and accusing political opponents of spreading misinformation.
Speaking on the sidelines of an official event in Pampore, Abdullah said the government had only invited public feedback and no order had been issued to remove Urdu. “There is no droppage of Urdu. God save us from such people who cannot differentiate between truth and falsehood,” he said, targeting critics.
He added that those making allegations failed to produce any official directive removing Urdu. “They only showed the order where we invited public comments. If one cannot understand the difference between seeking feedback and dropping a subject, it is unfortunate,” he said.
Referring to remarks by PDP leader Iltija Mufti, the Chief Minister said that despite being educated, she needed to understand the distinction between consultation and decision-making. He clarified that the file related to any such proposal remains pending and has neither been approved nor is intended to be cleared.
Abdullah said that while a proposal may have originated from the concerned department, it has not received government approval. “As an elected government, it is our responsibility to seek public feedback. The order was issued only for that purpose,” he said, accusing opponents of pursuing politics based on falsehood.
Responding to queries on RTI-related claims, he alleged that the PDP was attempting to divert attention. He further claimed that the party, which had earlier aligned with the BJP, is now trying to mislead people by raising such issues and focusing on Urdu. (Agencies)
