Badge Symbolizes Service, Not Authority: LG Sinha to 29 Newly Recruited DySPs

SRINAGAR, Sept 18: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday handed over appointment orders to 29 newly selected Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) of the J&K Police (Gazetted) Services, urging them to treat their uniforms as a symbol of service, commitment and responsibility rather than authority.

Addressing the newly inducted officers at Lok Bhavan here, Sinha said the appointment letters represented the trust and expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and called upon the recruits to uphold the responsibility of safeguarding the Union Territory.

“Today, appointment letters have been handed over to all 29 newly appointed officers. At first glance, it may appear to be an ordinary piece of paper, but it carries the immense trust and expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor said contemporary policing in J&K was facing complex and non-traditional security challenges, with the nature of terrorism continuing to evolve.

“Jammu and Kashmir today is facing challenges that police officers a decade ago might not even have imagined. The nature of terrorism is changing, and the battle is no longer being fought with conventional weapons alone,” Sinha said, stressing the need for continuous adaptation and strategic vigilance.

He said the induction of the new officers reflected the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity and future of the people of J&K.

Sinha urged the recruits to approach their responsibilities with integrity and dedication, saying their service would demand sacrifice and commitment.

Referring to their forthcoming training at the Police Academy in Udhampur, he said rigorous physical and mental training would prepare them to meet the challenges ahead.

“You will understand that the badge on your uniform is not a symbol of authority over the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but a symbol of service, commitment, and responsibility towards them,” the LG said.

He also congratulated the newly appointed officers and their families and wished them success in their professional journey.
