Bharat is sacred, bound together by a sense of oneness: PM
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, May 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said every part of Bharat is sacred and connected by a deep sense of unity that transcends geography, asserting that this spirit of oneness remains relevant in a world often divided by conflicts and differences.
In a signed article marking 75 years since the restored Somnath Temple was reopened to devotees, Modi said the temple symbolises India’s civilisational strength and resilience. He paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to protect Somnath and to generations who rebuilt it after repeated destruction.
“Countless individuals from different corners of India contributed to restoring its glory. They saw every part of Bharat as sacred, bound together by a sense of oneness,” he said.
The Prime Minister announced that special pujas would be held at Somnath for the next 1,000 days to commemorate a thousand years since the first attack on the temple. He urged people to visit Somnath during this period and experience the “unconquerable spirit” of Indian civilisation.
Modi said Somnath stands as a symbol of renewal and endurance, noting that despite invasions and upheavals, Indian culture remained undefeated. “The waves before Somnath remind every generation that the spirit of the people can never be subdued for long,” he said.
Recalling the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in rebuilding the temple after Independence, Modi said Patel considered reconstruction of Somnath a sacred national task. He also highlighted the contributions of K.M. Munshi, Rajendra Prasad and several historical rulers and spiritual leaders who protected and restored the shrine over centuries.
The Prime Minister said the restoration of Somnath reflected India’s journey from destruction to creation and symbolised the country’s civilisational continuity.
Modi further said the government, inspired by the principle of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi,” has worked to modernise and preserve major spiritual centres across the country, including Kashi, Kedarnath, Ayodhya and Ujjain. According to him, improving infrastructure and connectivity at these religious sites has strengthened local economies and deepened the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”
