Bangkok, July 13: At least 27 people were killed and more than 60 others injured after a massive fire ripped through a bar in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, shortly after midnight, authorities said.

According to officials, the victims include nine men and 18 women. More than 60 injured people have been admitted to hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment.

Firefighters rushed to the scene in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district after receiving reports of the blaze. Rescue teams found panicked patrons attempting to escape through the venue’s flame-engulfed front entrance as the fire spread rapidly.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed that 27 bodies had been recovered from the site and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially established, but investigators suspect an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The affected establishment is a popular restaurant and entertainment venue in the Chatuchak district, a bustling area of the Thai capital. Authorities are continuing rescue and forensic operations while assessing the extent of the damage. (Agencies)
