Sunderbani, Rajouri: In an apparent case of alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Panchayat Nala, Sunderbani, locals have accused influential individuals of attempting to secure housing benefits despite allegedly being ineligible.
According to the sources, a former Lambardar from Barnada village has allegedly managed to get his name included in the PMAY beneficiary list even though his house was reportedly completed nearly a year ago.
“The beneficiary had retained one room in an unfinished condition to qualify for the housing scheme and later completed the construction while still seeking PMAY assistance,” said sources, adding that a former Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representative used political influence to facilitate the process.
Sources questioned the role of officials responsible for geo-tagging and beneficiary verification, alleging that procedural norms may not have been followed.
“The housing scheme is intended for economically weaker families, widows, and genuinely homeless beneficiaries,” said sources, adding that extending benefits to financially well-off individuals defeats the purpose of the scheme.
They have demanded that the Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri should order an independent inquiry into the matter rather than relying solely on verification at the village level.
Meanwhile, the residents have warned that if any ineligible beneficiary is granted assistance despite the allegations, they may approach the Vigilance authorities seeking an investigation into the alleged irregularities.
