Kupwara Man Convicted for Securing IRP Constable Job Using Fake Class XII Certificate

SRINAGAR, Jul 29: A court in Srinagar has convicted a Kupwara resident for fraudulently obtaining a constable’s job in the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) by submitting a forged Class XII certificate, bringing to a close a long-pending recruitment fraud case investigated by the Crime Branch Kashmir, now the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

The Special Mobile Magistrate, 13th Finance Commission/Railway Magistrate, Srinagar, found Nazir Ahmad Malik, a resident of Bunpora Trehgam in Kupwara district, guilty under Sections 420 (cheating) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

According to the prosecution, Malik had secured his appointment in the IRP battalion by producing a fake 10+2 qualification certificate during the recruitment process. During the investigation, the disputed certificate was seized and forwarded to the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) for verification.

The Board confirmed that the certificate was forged, providing crucial evidence that led to Malik’s conviction.

Following the trial, the court sentenced Malik to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 420 RPC. In case of default in payment of the fine, he will undergo an additional 15 days of simple imprisonment.

The court also awarded him two years’ simple imprisonment under Section 471 RPC. Both sentences will run concurrently.

The conviction marks another success for the Economic Offences Wing in prosecuting recruitment fraud cases involving forged educational credentials.
