Kulgam Police Arrest Absconder After Five Years

SRINAGAR, Sept 11: Police in Kulgam district on Friday arrested an absconder who had been evading arrest for the past five years in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police identified the accused as Mohammad Ishaq Sheikh, a resident of Okey, Kulgam, who was wanted in connection with FIR No. 152/2021 registered at Police Station Kulgam under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

According to police, the accused was apprehended following specific information after sustained efforts by a team from Police Station Kulgam.

“Acting on specific information, a police team from Police Station Kulgam, after strenuous efforts apprehended the said absconder at Kulgam,” police said.

After completing the requisite legal formalities, the accused was produced before the Sessions Court, Kulgam. The court subsequently ordered his custody and he was sent to Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu.

Police reiterated its commitment to tracing and apprehending absconders and offenders, maintaining that no person would be allowed to evade the law and that all such cases would be pursued in accordance with legal procedures.
