Police detain MLA Mehraj, produce him before Court
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu Tawi, Sep 15: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir president and Doda MLA Mehraj Malik was detained by Doda Police on Tuesday and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) Court after a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) was issued against him in connection with a pending criminal case.
According to the details, Police clarified that Malik was not taken into custody in any fresh case but was detained solely to execute the court-issued non-bailable warrant.
He was subsequently produced before the court, where proceedings in the matter continued.
During the hearing, the court framed charges against the legislator in the old case, paving the way for further trial proceedings. The case will now proceed in accordance with law.
Security was tightened around the court complex as supporters and onlookers gathered during Malik’s appearance before the court.
Malik, who serves as the president of the AAP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, had earlier received major legal relief in April 2026 when the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court quashed his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA), holding that his preventive detention was unlawful.
