Smart City Mission to continue in J&K

JAMMU Tawi, Jul 17: Closed in March last year 2025, the Smart City Mission for both Jammu and Srinagar Cities will now continue for repurposing of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL).
The order in this regard was issued by the Department of Housing and Urban Development Department.
As per the order No 138-JK (HUD) of 2026, the approval for continuation and repurposing of JSCL and SSCL has been granted for continuation of works under Smart City Mission.
The permission for continuation of works under Smart City Mission has been granted by the J&K Government.
In Pursuance of the decision take by the council of ministers, the sanction is hereby accorded to the continuation of JSCL and SSCL as government mechanisms for asset management, and completion of Smart City Mission works after the closure of the Mission in March 2025, the government order reads.
The repurposing of JSCL and SSCL as government mechanisms for urban project delivery and lifecycle asset-management, with expanded mandate for project implementation under Urban Challenge Fund and other future schemes of Government of India and Projects of J&K Government, revenue linked O&M models, advisory/PMC functions and technology-enabled service support the departments and ULBs, the order reads.
Provision of limited and time bound transitional financial support with a clearly defined tapering plan, targeting complete operational and financial sustainability within 3 years except the policy-mandated e-bus ticket subsidy, the order reads.
