Notorious Drug Peddler Detained Under PIT-NDPS Act; Four Others Held With Narcotics in J&K

Jammu, Jul 11: A notorious drug peddler was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Udhampur district, while four others were arrested with heroin and poppy straw in separate operations across Samba, Kathua and Rajouri districts, police said on Saturday.

 

Police identified the detainee as Sanjay Kumar alias “Sanju”, a resident of Phalata village in Udhampur. A police spokesperson said the detention order, issued by the competent authority, was executed on Friday, following which Kumar was lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah in Doda.

 

In Samba district, Anil Kumar, a resident of Ghagwal, was arrested after police recovered 1.720 kg of poppy straw from his possession while he was travelling on a two-wheeler near his residence.

 

In another operation in Vijaypur, police apprehended Yogeshwar Singh and seized 10.14 grams of heroin during a search of his car. The vehicle was also seized.

 

In Kathua district, Sandeep Kumar was arrested after police recovered five grams of heroin from his vehicle at Hatli Morh.

 

Meanwhile, in Rajouri district, police arrested Naim Naseer alias Raja near Bhella Bridge and recovered 2.63 grams of heroin from his possession.

 

Police said separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered against all four accused, and further investigation is underway.
