Naib Tehsildar Chargesheeted in Kupwara Revenue Record Forgery Case
by Northlines · NorthlinesSrinagar, July 8: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against a serving Naib Tehsildar for allegedly forging revenue records to fraudulently claim ownership of ancestral land in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Kupwara district.
The chargesheet, filed before the Court of the Sub-Judge/Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kupwara, pertains to a 2021 FIR registered under Sections 167, 417, 466 and 468 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). The accused, Leyaket Ali Khan, a resident of Babapora Haihama in Kupwara, was serving as a Patwari at the time of the alleged offences and is presently posted as a Naib Tehsildar.
According to the EOW, the case stemmed from a complaint alleging that Khan manipulated revenue records to transfer jointly owned ancestral land in Halqa Haihama/Gundi Sana in favour of himself and his brother.
The investigation revealed that while functioning as Patwari, the accused allegedly abused his official position by making false entries in the Khasra Girdawari registers, replacing official record pages and forging revenue documents to falsely establish ownership and possession of the ancestral property.
The Crime Branch said the alleged attempt to secure wrongful ownership was thwarted due to timely corrective action taken by the Revenue Department. However, the investigation found sufficient evidence to establish offences under Sections 167, 417, 466 and 468 of the RPC.
Following completion of the investigation, the Economic Offences Wing Kashmir presented the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial proceedings. (Agencies)
