Crime Branch Jammu Files Charge-Sheet in Fake MES Recruitment Scam

Jammu, Aug 4: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of Crime Branch Jammu has filed a charge-sheet against two Punjab residents in connection with a fake recruitment scam in the Military Engineering Services (MES), officials said.

The charge-sheet was filed before the Court of Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Samba, on August 3 against Bakshish Singh of Amritsar and Amandeep Singh of Jalandhar in FIR No. 07/2023 under Sections 420, 465, 468 and 120-B of the IPC.

The case was registered on a complaint by two residents of Samba district, who alleged that the accused took Rs 14 lakh from them on the false promise of securing jobs in MES. The victims were allegedly provided forged appointment letters and sent to different locations, including Ranchi and Meerut, for purported medical examinations, document verification and joining formalities.

Verification from MES authorities subsequently established that the appointment letters were forged and had not been issued by the department.

During investigation, SCW collected documentary, digital and financial evidence, including bank transaction records and forensic examination of questioned documents, which corroborated the allegations.

Bakshish Singh was arrested from Amritsar after sustained efforts, while Amandeep Singh remains absconding despite extensive raids and issuance of a lookout notice. Proceedings have been initiated to declare him a proclaimed offender.

Crime Branch advised the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent job rackets and verify recruitment offers through official government channels before making payments.
