Nepal Flood Death Toll Climbs to 1,386; Over 5,000 Missing

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The death toll from devastating flash floods in Nepal has risen to 1,386, with more bodies recovered from eight affected districts, while around 5,130 people remain missing, authorities said.

The floods, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, devastated towns and villages across northern and central Nepal, leaving widespread destruction.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 104 of the recovered bodies have so far been identified and handed over to their families. Around 5,130 people are still reported missing as search and rescue operations continue.

Security forces remain engaged in search and rescue efforts in the affected areas. More than 13,700 people have been rescued so far, while 339 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals.

The authorities are continuing efforts to locate those missing and recover bodies from areas affected by the floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, more than 3,700 displaced people are staying in temporary shelters across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts.

The disaster has severely affected communities in northern and central Nepal, with rescue teams continuing operations amid the challenging conditions. (Agencies)
