Encounter in Kishtwar: 1 JeM Terrorist Killed, Operation Continues
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu, Feb 22: One Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist was killed on Sunday after an encounter broke out between security forces and militants in a remote forested area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The gunfight erupted around 10:30 am in the Passerkut area of the Chatroo belt after joint teams of the Army, police and CRPF launched a search operation on inputs about the presence of two Pakistani terrorists affiliated with the proscribed outfit.
Officials said the militants, hiding in a mud house on the foothills, opened fire on advancing troops, triggering an intense exchange. One terrorist has been neutralised so far, while the operation to track the second militant was continuing in the dense forest terrain.
The Chatroo forest belt has witnessed nearly half a dozen encounters over the past month, in which one soldier and one terrorist were killed. Security forces have since maintained heightened surveillance and combing operations in the region. (Agencies)
