A REPEAT drink-driver has admitted being over the legal alcohol limit after police found him asleep in his car wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night.
Officers found the man slumped against the headrest of his Mercedes with both windows open and the key in the ignition shortly after midnight earlier this month.
St Helier Centenier Sharon Rive, prosecuting, told the Magistrate’s Court yesterday that officers struggled to wake Terrence John Bardwell (66) and could smell alcohol.
Bardwell gave a reading of 49 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
He apologised and described the incident as a “one-off”, but the court heard that he had five previous similar matters, the latest from 2018.
Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu ordered the defendant to return in August for sentencing.
