FOLLOWING her election win over former Chief Minister John Le Fondré, Constable-elect Tina Palmer has stressed that her focus will remain “categorically” on St Lawrence and the parishioners she has been chosen to represent.
The recruitment professional succeeds retiring incumbent Deidre Mezbourian after securing 1,151 votes, well outpacing Mr Le Fondré’s 608 votes.
Speaking shortly after the States Assembly induction programme got under way, Mrs Palmer noted that it was her “first time changing job in decades”.
Reflecting on her “surreal” election experience, she praised the organisational efforts of the vote.je and parish staff.
“The whole day was amazing – I can’t fault any of it.”
Mrs Palmer highlighted that “I didn’t do it on my own”, attributing her winning result to “a completely collective effort”.
She thanked everyone who had voted for her or supported her campaign and also cited the “hospitality” of staff at St Lawrence Pub.
Mrs Palmer has previously stated that her “absolute aim is to focus on the parish” and that, if elected, she would not look to take on a ministerial portfolio – but would potentially consider positions within scrutiny.
Asked if their was a particular panel she might lean towards, she acknowledged that children, young people, education and skills was an area in which she felt she could potentially contribute.
The newly-elected politician added: “I want to take on something that I can do properly. I don’t want to be on ten committees.”
She reiterated that: “I want to focus on the bit that I actually put myself up for – which is the parish – and categorically that’s it.”
