TRINITY’S first female Constable said that her election was far from a done deal and her head-to-head with honorary police stalwart Steve de Louche had prompted her to knock on even more doors in the parish.
However, in the end former Deputy Andy Howell’s victory was comfortable, with the retired dentist polling more than twice as many votes as her opponent.
853 parishioners cast their vote in favour of now-Constable Howell compared to 342 for Mr de Louche.
She said: “I think Steve thought he would win, which prompted me to work even harder to try to knock on ever door – I had a map of Trinity, and I would colour each road green once I had gone down it. By the end, the whole of it was green.”
Mrs Howell said it had been a good-natured campaign, and she attributed her success to “perhaps being better known and having done a bit more in the parish”.
She added that “everyone had been so kind” when she had knocked on doors and she had enjoyed meeting parishioners.
Going forward, she said her priorities included protecting the Trinity countryside, looking after its farmers and keeping it a “rural, welcoming parish”.
She added that her immediate responsibilities had included helping to select a new rector. She also attended a planning appeal hearing on Thursday in support of residents opposing plans for a 26-home development in Rue du Moulin du Ponterrin near Victoria Village.
