2026 World Cup: GFA Executive Council members trip will not be funded by government - Kofi Adams

Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has clarified that the state will not cover travel expenses for Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM last week, Adams explained that government support will instead be limited to key officials involved in team administration.

“The government will not fund the travel of Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the World Cup," he said.

He added that the General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, GFA President Kurt Okraku, and members of the Management Committee will, however, be catered for.

“However, the General Secretary [Prosper Harrison Addo], the president of the GFA [Kurt Okraku], and Management Committee members will be taken care of, but the government will not fund the trips of any Executive Council members because you cannot head into the tournament, especially the president of the GFA," he added.

Ghana, four-time African champions, have been drawn in Group L for the tournament alongside England, Croatia, and Panama as they prepare for their fifth World Cup appearance.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and concluding their group stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, the team under coach Carlos Queiroz will step up preparations with international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
