World Cup 2026: Ghana Government unaware of any Canadian Visa denial for Thomas Partey

Ghana's government says it has not received any official information indicating that Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has been denied a visa to enter Canada for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The clarification was provided by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams amid growing reports suggesting that the Villarreal midfielder could face travel restrictions for Ghana's group stage fixture against Panama, which is scheduled to be played in Canada on June 17.

Speaking to Joy News, the Minister dismissed suggestions that the government had been informed of any visa denial involving the former Arsenal star.

"I am not aware that he has been denied a visa. I knew his previous visa to the United States had some challenges, but he has since been issued a visa to be able to enter the United States, and I am unaware that he has been denied a visa to Canada. No, not that I'm aware," Adams stated.

The Minister further explained that any official decision affecting Partey's participation would likely have been communicated to his office or the Ghana Football Association.

"I don't think if any such thing had happened, they would have communicated to me as Minister for Sports and Recreation. I haven't received any such communication. I've been in touch with the FA and the management who are currently in the United States," he added.

The uncertainty surrounding Partey's travel status comes as Ghana intensifies preparations for the World Cup, which the United States, Canada and Mexico are jointly hosting.

Reports linking the midfielder to potential visa complications have emerged amid his ongoing legal situation in the United Kingdom.

Partey is currently facing multiple criminal charges and is expected to stand trial at Southwark Crown Court in London. He has consistently denied all allegations against him.

Earlier this year, his lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, reiterated her client's position, stating: "Thomas Partey continues to deny all charges against him. He has cooperated fully with the police throughout. Given that legal proceedings are ongoing, there will be no further comment."

Despite the speculation, there has been no official confirmation from Canadian authorities or FIFA that Partey's participation in the tournament has been affected.
