GFA mourns Dominic Frimpong after tragic armed robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea team bus
· GhanaSoccernetThe Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic death of Berekum Chelsea winger Dominic Frimpong after a reported armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus.
Frimpong, 20, is said to have lost his life after the incident on the Bibiani-Goaso road while the team was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture. The shocking development has left the football community in mourning.
In an official statement, the GFA said it had received the news with “profound shock and deep sorrow,” describing the young winger as a promising talent whose commitment and passion reflected the spirit of the domestic game.
The Association extended condolences to Frimpong’s family, his teammates, technical staff, management, and all at Berekum Chelsea during what it described as an extremely difficult period.
“This tragic incident is not only a huge loss to Berekum Chelsea but also to Ghana football as a whole,” the statement said.
The GFA confirmed it is in constant contact with the club and relevant authorities, including the Ghana Police Service, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack. It also called for swift action to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Beyond the immediate response, the FA indicated plans to engage key stakeholders to review and strengthen security arrangements for clubs travelling for domestic competitions, with the aim of preventing similar incidents in future.
The Association further urged the football community to come together in support of Berekum Chelsea and the bereaved family.
