AshantiGold SC no longer exists – Former GFA Executive Council Member

Former executive council member of the Ghana Football Association, Frederick Acheampong, has confirmed that AshantiGold Sporting Club is defunct following its demotion to Division Two, bringing clarity to the club’s long-running identity crisis.

According to Acheampong, after the club was relegated, some stakeholders held discussions about a possible comeback. However, those talks were derailed by internal disagreements rather than a shared vision for football development.

“After the club’s demotion to Division 2, leaders consulted on a possible comeback, but they were more interested in politics — fighting FC AshantiGold ’04 over the name while the latter focused on football and complied with GFA directives,” he stated.

His remarks highlight a sharp contrast between two factions: one entangled in disputes over ownership and the club’s identity, and another – FC AshantiGold '04 – which concentrated on meeting regulatory requirements and continuing football activities.

Acheampong’s clarification underscores how internal divisions, rather than sporting challenges alone, played a decisive role in the collapse of the once-prominent club. While FC AshantiGold ’04 continues to operate in compliance with GFA rules, the original AshantiGold Sporting Club has effectively ceased to exist.
