Kofi Adams: I came into office well prepared as Sports Minister

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he assumed office fully prepared for the demands of the role.
The Buem Member of Parliament was appointed Sports Minister following the National Democratic Congress’ victory in the 2024 general elections, succeeding Mustapha Ussif.
Speaking on the structure and influence within the sector, Adams acknowledged the existence of entrenched interests often referred to as a “mafia”, but stressed that his approach has been cautious and strategic rather than confrontational.
“Well, as for what we call mafia, you surely have it in every field, no doubt about that, people who have made themselves masters of the game, and they are always around and think that it must always be them," he told Graphic Sports.
He explained that instead of taking a direct confrontational path, he prioritised observation and engagement upon taking office.
“I came a little bit prepared. I did a lot of listening, a lot of engagement… I was quiet and doing this and doing that, and I was studying all along. Now it is implementation,” he said.
