CRYSTAL LAKE Showrunner Shuts Down Wild Jason Theory: "He's Not a Gov't Super Soldier or an Eleven"

Jason Voorhees may be many things, but apparently a government-engineered killing machine isn’t one of them.

The new trailer for Crystal Lake gave fans their first substantial look at Brad Caleb Kane’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, and horror fans immediately started dissecting every frame.

Linda Cardellinilooks great as Pamela Voorhees, the violence looks appropriately nasty, and some mysterious shots of sterile facilities and laboratory-style doors raised a pretty big question about Jason.

Was Crystal Lake about to rewrite Jason Voorhees as some kind of government experiment? Some fans even wondered if the series was taking Jason into Stranger Things territory and giving him an origin similar to Eleven. Kane has now stepped in to kill those theories before they get any further.

Responding to the trailer speculation on Instagram, Kane said: "It's not the CIA. He's not a gov't super soldier or an Eleven," assured Kane. "He’s probably just a Chud. Or at worst a Trog.

“In any case, all will be known Oct. 15. Y'know, they called Copernicus a heretic at first, too. And look how that turned out! Well, bad for him, I guess. Nevermind. Enjoy!!!"

So, no CIA-created Jason Voorhees. No secret government super soldier program. No Hawkins Lab-style explanation for the Camp Crystal Lake killer. Whatever those strange images in the trailer actually represent, Kane is making it pretty clear that the biggest fan theories currently circulating aren’t where the story is headed.

That should come as a relief to Friday the 13th fans who were worried that Crystal Lake might completely reinvent Jason’s mythology.

The series digs into the tragedy that started everything, with young Jason’s apparent death at Camp Crystal Lake and Pamela refusing to accept that her son is gone. While the rest of the town believes Jason drowned, Pamela becomes increasingly desperate to find him.

Of course, this is Pamela Voorhees we’re talking about, so her search isn’t exactly going to be a healthy journey through grief.

As Pamela continues digging for answers, more of her history begins coming to the surface, and the bodies start piling up. The trailer makes it clear that campers are in serious trouble, with sharp objects, blunt instruments, and whatever else happens to be within reach being put to gruesome use.

That sounds much more like the Friday the 13th we know. The big mystery now is what those strange facility scenes actually mean and how they connect to Jason, Pamela, and the larger history of Crystal Lake. Kane clearly knows exactly what fans are theorizing, and he seems to be having a good time watching everyone get it wrong.

We won’t have to wait much longer to find out what’s really going on. Crystal Lake premieres October 15, bringing audiences back to the camp where one seriously messed-up horror legacy began.
