THE PEOPLE VS. GORILLA GRODD Reportedly Adds Two Major Flash Villains to the DCU

Gorilla Grodd apparently won’t be the only member of The Flash’s rogues’ gallery hanging around the DCU.

A new rumor claimsThe People v. Gorilla Groddwill feature Golden Glider and Murmur, two longtime Flash villains whose involvement raises a much bigger question: Could the Scarlet Speedster himself somehow factor into the series?

What we’ve seen from The People vs. Gorilla Grodd so far points to DC Studios leaning heavily into comedy. That fits comfortably withinJames Gunn’s increasingly strange corner of the DCU, although the approach has already divided fans.

Some viewers are having fun with the idea of Grodd getting an irreverent comedy series, while others aren’t thrilled to see one of The Flash’s most dangerous enemies played for laughs. We’ll have to see how the finished series handles him before making that call.

The show is already digging into some lesser-known DC characters. Set photos confirmed that Matter-Eater Lad was one of Grodd’s classmates at Metropolis University, and @AtlantaDCFans is the source reporting that Golden Glider and Murmur are also expected to appear.

Golden Glider is Lisa Snart, sister of Leonard Snart, a.k.a. Captain Cold. A longtime Flash enemy, she can project herself into an ethereal form that allows her to fly, phase through solid objects, and move at incredible speeds. The character previously appeared in The Flash TV series.

Murmur is Michael Amar, another Flash villain with the ability to control people through his powerful sonic voice. The Arrowverse took a different approach to the character, reimagining Murmur as Michelle Amar.

There’s no word on how either villain fits into The People vs. Gorilla Grodd, but the show’s format gives the writers plenty of possibilities. They could be connected to Grodd’s past, appear as witnesses, or become part of Jimmy Olsen’s investigation.

It also creates a pretty natural opportunity for The Flash to appear. There’s currently no indication that the Scarlet Speedster will actually show up, so that remains pure speculation.

I seriously doubt The Flash will appear, he’s too big of a DC character to throw into a show like this. Still, introducing multiple members of his rogues’ gallery without him around is an interesting choice.

More details emerging from the set suggest Grodd isn’t exactly popular with the people of Metropolis. According to the same account, protestors have been spotted demanding that Grodd be imprisoned or even killed.

One sign reportedly reads, “Grodd must answer for his crimes.” A gorilla-sized orange prison jumpsuit has also been spotted.

The People vs. Gorilla Grodd follows the superintelligent ape after he’s convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. The eight-episode “true” crime docuseries sees Daily Planet reporter Jimmy Olsen reopen the infamous case and investigate whether Grodd was wrongly convicted.

Skyler Gisondo reprises his role as Jimmy Olsen, while Jimmy Tatro plays Gorilla Grodd. Several Superman cast members are also returning, including Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

The cast also includes Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz, though their roles haven’t been revealed.

Tony Yacenda and Perrault are serving as showrunners, writers, and executive producers, with Yacenda directing all eight episodes. Gunn and Peter Safran are also executive producers.

The People vs. Gorilla Grodd is expected to arrive on HBO Max sometime in 2027 or 2028.
