AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Teases a Deadly Doctor Doom Fight With Steve Rogers and Bucky

Bucky Barnes may want to keep that vibranium arm ready because a new Avengers: Doomsdayrumor puts the Winter Soldier directly in Doctor Doom’s path, and this confrontation could end very badly for Steve Rogers’ oldest friend.

Insider James Mack claims that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers andSebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes will team up against Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom during the final battle of Avengers: Doomsday.

According to Mack’s report, the sequence will feature a 2-vs-1 fight reminiscent of the brutal showdown between Steve, Bucky, and Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed any of this, so it should absolutely be treated as a rumor. Still, if the information turns out to be legit, it raises one huge question: Is Doctor Doom going to kill Bucky?

The reported callback to Civil War is especially interesting considering the three actors involved. Evans is back as Steve Rogers, Stan returns as Bucky, and Downey Jr. has traded Iron Man’s armor for the role of Victor von Doom.

Putting these three together for another major fight would immediately remind audiences of one of the MCU’s most personal confrontations, except the circumstances and stakes would be completely different.

In Civil War, Tony discovered that Bucky, while under Hydra’s control, murdered his parents. That revelation led to the vicious fight between Tony, Steve, and Bucky, with Steve ultimately defeating Tony before leaving his shield behind.

Avengers: Doomsday could flip that scenario by putting Downey Jr. on the villainous side of the fight. Rather than Tony trying to take down Bucky while Steve protects him, Doom would reportedly be facing both longtime friends at once.

That could make for one hell of an MCU rematch, particularly if Marvel intends to use the audience’s memories of Civil War against them. The darker possibility is that this time Bucky doesn’t walk away.

If Doom overpowers Steve and Bucky and kills the Winter Soldier, it would instantly make the conflict incredibly personal for Steve.

Bucky has been part of Steve’s life since childhood, and their friendship has driven some of his biggest decisions throughout the MCU. Steve risked everything to protect Bucky, including turning against Tony and fracturing the Avengers.

Having Doom take Bucky away from him would give Steve a very personal reason to go after the villain. Of course, there’s a major difference between Doom defeating Bucky and actually killing him.

The death speculation isn’t confirmed, and the report itself remains unverified. Marvel could also be using the Civil War similarities for an entirely different purpose.

Still, the idea of Evans, Stan, and Downey Jr. recreating the basic dynamic of that famous Civil War battle, only with Doctor Doom replacing Tony Stark, is a cool concept. Downey Jr.’s presence would give the scene an extra layer for longtime MCU fans even though Victor von Doom is a completely different character.

If Bucky really does die during the final battle, though, Marvel would be taking one of the MCU’s longest-running friendships and using it to turn Steve Rogers’ fight against Doom into something painfully personal.

Then there’s the other thing… it’s been rumored that everyone dies anyway, so Bucky could be one of many.
