Luke Skywalker Rumored to Lead New STAR WARS: TALES OF THE JEDI Animated Series

by · GeekTyrant

There’s a rumor being reported that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi could return with none other than Luke Skywalker taking the spotlight. If true, it would mark a pretty big shift for the animated anthology series and could offer a fresh shot at exploring Luke in a way the sequel trilogy never quite nailed.

Luke’s journey under Disney hasn’t exactly been smooth hyperspace travel. He barely appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, showing up at the very end in silence.

Then came Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which pulled back the curtain on a broken, withdrawn Jedi Master who had walked away from everything. That take on the character divided fans in a big way.

His final act of sacrifice helped soften the blow for some, but it didn’t fully repair the damage. By the time Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker rolled around, Luke was reduced to a brief Force Ghost appearance, and for many fans, that just wasn’t enough.

Things finally turned around thanks to The Mandalorian, where Luke showed up in full Jedi mode and reminded everyone why he’s one of the most iconic heroes in the franchise. That momentum carried into The Book of Boba Fett, which gave us a glimpse at his early Jedi Academy days. Since then, though, the character has been noticeably absent.

That might be about to change. According to insider @FivesWalker, Luke Skywalker is expected to play a major role in the next chapter of Tales of the Jedi.

The series, which kicked off in 2022, has already expanded into Tales of the Empire and Tales of the Underworld, each focusing on different corners of the Star Wars universe.

While Lucasfilm hasn’t officially announced another installment, shifting focus to Luke would be a smart move and one that would instantly get fans paying attention.

There’s also some interesting timing at play. The recent Tales series have both dropped on May 4, and with Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord nearing its end, an announcement could be right around the corner.

As for the source of the rumor, @FivesWalker has built a solid reputation. They’ve shared accurate details about Shadow Lord ahead of time and even dropped a few movie scoops that later checked out. That doesn’t make this a sure thing, but it definitely gives the claim some weight.

The big question now is whether Mark Hamill would return to voice Luke. The actor sounded pretty definitive about stepping away last year, saying:

"I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars 'the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,'" Hamill said.

"We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters."

That sounds like a goodbye, but there’s always room for a surprise. Hamill has been vocal about supporting Dave Filoni, who now serves as co-President of Lucasfilm and has been deeply involved in shaping the Tales series. If anyone could convince him to step back into the role, it’d likely be Filoni.

For now, this is all in rumor territory, but it’s the kind of rumor that’s exciting. A Luke-focused Tales of the Jedi could finally explore the character in his prime, filling in the gaps fans have been curious about for years.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one. If Luke Skywalker is truly making his return, it could end up being one of the coolest Star Wars updates in a long time.
