Lagos govt clears roadside markets along Ikotun-Igando axis
by Sunday Dennis · Daily PostLagos State Government, on Saturday, carried out an enforcement operation to remove roadside markets along the Ikotun-Igando Road in Alimosho Local Government Area.
The action was confirmed by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post shared on his official X handle, alongside video footage of the exercise.
According to Wahab, the operation took place on December 20, 2025, and covered Ikotun Main Market, Igando Market, and other informal trading points along the busy corridor.
He said the exercise was aimed at clearing traders who had unlawfully occupied road setbacks and pedestrian walkways, as well as addressing indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental infractions.
The commissioner explained that the enforcement was carried out to restore order, improve traffic flow, and uphold Lagos State sanitation and environmental regulations.
Wahab added that the operation was jointly executed by Project WISE, under the leadership of Mr Bayo Oladeji, and the Private Sector Participation, PSP, waste services, led by Mr Tunde Sulaiman.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment and warned traders against activities that undermine public safety and sanitation laws.
