Oyo govt, APC candidate trade words over Makinde’s projects
by Musliudeen Adebayo · Daily PostThe Oyo State Government and the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, are currently at loggerheads over the status of some projects executed by Governor Seyi Makinde.
DAILY POST reports that Makinde is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.
DAILY POST gathered that the APC candidate, through his spokesman, Bisi Oladele, had earlier questioned Makinde’s engineering credentials.
Alli, in the statement, alleged that Makinde wasted over N250 billion to power streetlights in the state with diesel-powered generators.

The APC candidate also described the money spent on the renovation of the Lekan Salami Stadium in the Adamasingba area of Ibadan as a waste of public resources.
The APC candidate, in the statement obtained by DAILY POST on Saturday, condemned what he described as the “embarrassing culture of waste, poor planning and misplaced priorities” of the Makinde administration.
“It is a tragic irony that Governor Makinde, who studied electrical engineering, cannot devise a sustainable electricity solution for the streetlights installed with about N400 billion of state funds by his government.”
But the state government, in its reaction, noted that Alli’s outburst showed his desperation.
The government made this known in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The state government, in the statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday, explained that the people of the state understood the difference between loud political noise and the delivery of real governance.
The statement added that the streetlights were introduced due to the failure of the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to provide steady power supply to various communities in the country as promised.
The statement said, “The people of Oyo State understand the difference between loud political noise and the steady, competent delivery of real governance, and no amount of manufactured outrage can change that.
“The only reason generators are being used is because the APC-led Federal Government, Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s party, has failed spectacularly to deliver the regular electricity supply it promised Nigerians.”
