Taraba court adjourns Arewa24 suit against NBMOA to June 4
by Great Ozozoyin · Daily PostA High Court sitting in Jalingo, Taraba state, on Wednesday adjourned proceedings in a legal dispute between Arewa 24 Network Limited and the Northern Broadcast Media Owners Association, NBMOA, to June 4, 2026.
The case, which came up before Nuhu Adi at Court Two of the Jalingo Judicial Division, involves a suit filed by Arewa 24 against the registered trustees of the association and other parties.
At the hearing, the defendants filed a preliminary objection challenging the competence of the suit. The application, brought under Order 11 Rule 1 of the Taraba State High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2026, seeks to have the case struck out or dismissed.
Speaking to journalists after the court session, counsel to the plaintiff, Ibrahim Effiong, said the matter was initially scheduled for hearing on motions, including an injunction affecting the interests of his client.
He explained that counsel to the respondents requested more time to respond, citing lack of preparedness, a request the court granted.
Counsel to the defendants, Bilyaminu Lukman Maihanci, told the court that the case was not ready for hearing, noting that the relatively new electronic filing system contributed to delays in receiving the case documents.
Following submissions from both parties, Justice Adi adjourned the matter to June 4, 2026, for hearing on the preliminary objection.
