Sokoto schools to reopen Monday as insecurity-hit areas remain closed

The Sokoto State Government has announced September 14, 2026, as the resumption date for public and private schools for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Boarding schools will reopen on Sunday, September 13, while academic activities in public and private schools will begin on Monday.

However, schools previously closed due to insecurity will remain closed until further notice.

The State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Muhammad Iya.

The ministry said it would communicate the reopening date for the affected schools when it considers it safe and appropriate to do so.

It urged parents, guardians, School-Based Management Committees and Parent-Teacher Associations to ensure the prompt and orderly return of students.

Teachers were also directed to resume duty and commence academic activities immediately.

The ministry said its inspectors would conduct monitoring visits to schools across the state to assess compliance with the approved resumption schedule and ensure academic activities begin as planned.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, directed heads of parastatals and agencies under the ministry to monitor the resumption exercise.
