Trump set to cut US trade with nations over deficit

Another round of global trade war is on the horizon, with President Donald Trump confirming his plan to break the United States’ trade with other countries.

Trump signalled the move in recent weeks amid the diplomatic conflict with Canada, which resulted in heavy tariffs, rigid restrictions, and counter-retaliations.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday before flying out of Ireland, the U.S. leader stated that a new action on trade had become imperative to ensure balance.

“I’m going to do that (cut off trade) with some nations,” he affirmed. “We don’t want to have deficits with nations. We want to have surpluses, or at least break even.”

Asked if he would support JD Vance ahead of the 2028 election, Trump said the Vice President “is terrific,” but “it’s too early” to reveal his choice. “We have so many terrific people,” he added.

The President, however, described polls on his public standing as “fake,” insisting his approval rating was great and shown by “only the legitimate pollsters.”

Trump, who announced he will drop the 15% tariff on Irish whiskey, repeated his call for Irish reunification, saying, “it is natural to put north and south together.”

The President declined to comment on whether Scotland should also be independent from the United Kingdom. “I won’t talk about that one, I’ll save that for another day.”
