by · Daily Post

The International Press Centre, IPC, has condemned the attack on Mohammed Adamu, a journalist with Albarka Radio, by police officers in Bauchi State.

Adamu was assaulted while covering Eid Durbar celebrations.

“The abuse of power and excessive use of force against Mohammed Adamu is very dangerous to our democracy and a major threat to press freedom,” said Lanre Arogundade, IPC Executive Director.

“The IPC demands an investigation and action against those responsible, including Divisional Police Officer SP Jamilu Kabir.

“We urge the men of the Nigerian Police Force to desist from creating an environment where journalists will be afraid to work,” Arogundade added.

The group demanded compensation for Adamu and better training of police officers to respect citizens’ rights.
