Gov Mbah suspends Enugu monarch over alleged misconduct

The Enugu State government has announced the suspension of the traditional ruler of Ibagwa Opi Ogbozalla autonomous community in Nsukka LGA, Williams Ezugwu, for misconduct.

This was disclosed in a statement by the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Charles Egumgbe, through the ministry’s spokesman, Emeka Nebeife.

According to the statement, the government suspended three traditional rulers and four president-generals from Ezeagu LGA in July for alleged misconduct bordering on security infractions.

Egumgbe said the monarch was suspended for alleged “persistent conduct that is inconsistent with some sections of the Traditional Rulers Law of Enugu State.”

According to the statement, the suspension takes effect immediately.

The Commissioner further stated that the accusations levelled against the royal father included failure to subscribe to the community’s code of conduct.

The monarch, who was also alleged to have refused to constitute a cabinet to help in running the affairs of the community since its creation, was equally said to have failed to set up a town union executive, thereby running the community single-handedly.

“The traditional ruler’s actions could plunge the community into an avoidable crisis, hence his suspension,” the statement said.
